Infants as young as six weeks old begin their care in the Little Guppies classroom with Miss Jessica as their teacher. Children are cared for based on the schedule their parents create in their first weeks after birth and daily activities are determined based on each child’s developmental progress. Mobility, among other factors, is what determines when a child moves to the Dolphin room, which typically has children ranging in age from six months to one year. Miss Desiree works with the children in the Dolphin room on a wide range of skills from learning to walk, to eating table food, to exploring the world around them. The Dolphin room begins to provide the babies with a little more of a structured schedule which will help them have an easier time transitioning to the Angelfish room.
After babies have turned one year old, are off of a bottle while at daycare, and are taking one afternoon nap each day, they make the transition to the Angelfish room. Miss Jeanine works with our young one-year-olds to introduce new toys and art tools and to develop their beginning speaking skills, explore the use of eating utensils, and introduce new aspects of daycare such as circle time, and using playtime as learning time. At roughly one-and-a-half, children move to the Jellyfish room with Miss Michelle. As Jellyfish, our older one-year-olds participate in countless hands-on experiences which help them build their communication skills, demonstrate their ability to follow directions, as well as develop physical skills like running and climbing.
When children turn two-years-old, they transition to the Seal room where Miss Cassie begins introducing the concept of toilet training. In addition to toilet training, children are also exposed to a more structured schedule which includes both learning and play-based activities from a more detailed, theme-based lesson plan. When children are two-and-a-half and/or toilet trained, they move to the Seahorse room where their teacher Miss Lisset continues to help expand upon their developmental growth through varied learning experiences. In the Seahorse room, children are often seen pretending, honing their social skills as well as learning more about themselves and the world around them.
While in the Starfish room with Miss Jessica and Miss Briana, children focus on acquiring not only the pre-academic skills that will prepare them for success once they enter 4K, but also building upon the social skills they have developed thus far. Children participate in small and large group activities that address literacy, math, science, and community skills, as well as participate in fun, and memorable experiences that will stay with them for years to come. Children in this age group are encouraged to continue developing their supervised self-help skills, including eating meals family-style, as well as toileting, brushing teeth, and washing up as independently as possible. We believe that though they are still young, it is important to stress that our three and four-year-olds are able to be independent in many ways.
After completing preschool, or when your child is able to enroll in 4K through the private or public area schools, your child is able to enter the Shark room. When their half-day of school is complete, children in the Shark room spend the remaining part of the day participating in extension activities that continue to develop the academic and social skills they are working on in 4K. In order to ensure that we are working on similar concepts as they are in school, we consult with the 4K teachers in the local school district to help us decide what concepts to focus on throughout the year.
Our Barracuda, or school-age program, provides before and after school care for children five to thirteen. We strive to provide structured, yet fun activities that not only continue the learning experiences for the children but allow them time to relax and have fun after a long school day. During the summer Precious Memories offers full and part-time school-age programming in which children continue to develop social and academic skills in a setting where children are encouraged to further explore topics they are interested in. Developing programming that is geared towards the interests of the children makes the summer even more exciting!
